Showerhead Maintenance Tips

You Do Not Need to be a Plumber in Order to Fix a Showerhead

No matter how often you clean your bathroom and shower area, sooner or later you will have to face a problem which every homeowner in the US and most probably in other countries face. This problem has a name and it is called showerhead. It is strange how, when you first install a shower in your bathroom, you do not relate this word to a problem and how only after a few years you already have to deal with many issues related to it.

The most common problem with showerheads that 89% of property owners experience is clogged showerhead holes. This is a problem which results from the uneven spray of water which leads to mineral deposits from the water. In order to fix this problem, you do not need to call a plumber. Here are a few tips you can follow instead:

  1. Unscrew the swivel ball nut with channel-type pliers or an adjustable wrench. Wrap the jaws of the tool you are using to fix the problem with some masking tape before you start

  2. Next, you can unscrew the collar nut from the showerhead.

  3. In order to proceed, you need to clean all of the showerhead’s outlet and inlet holes. To make this easier and faster, you can use a very thin wire.

  4. Use some clean warm water to flush the showerhead once you are done with the cleaning.

  5. If you want to get optimal cleaning results, we advise you to fill in a bowl with vinegar, and soak the showerhead overnight. This will surely remove all mineral deposits.

  6. When you are done with the cleaning part, you can reassemble the showerhead and enjoy the results.
